Women's Cross Country opened up their competitive season at the Aztec Invitational on Saturday, September 15th. While their competition was primarily University level, they were able to start the season with good contest and great finishing times. The Olympian pack was lead by freshmen Samantha Espindola who placed eighth within the field of eighty and Chelsea Hill, who placed twenty eighth. In addition, many of the Mesa returning athletes achieved personal records, such as Erika Julien, Heather Gardner, and Joy Smith. Each of these athletes shattered their times from last year by minutes, thereby helping the team score a seventh place finish.
The Cross Country girls will head to Huntington Beach next week to compete in the Golden West Invitational.
