Parking
Welcome to Spring 2008 at San Diego Mesa College
We are excited to inform you that construction on our long-awaited parking structure and police substation project has begun. Construction of the Parking Structure and Police Substation project at Mesa College began in June 2007. Once complete, the five-level Parking Structure and Police Substation, located at the end of Mesa College Drive, will hold 1,087 cars. The projected construction time is 19 months with the estimated completion date of February 2009. However, the construction of this project and the creation of a temporary Armstrong Street entrance will cause delays to those entering the campus via Mesa College Drive.
Following are some solutions, suggestions and information to help you get to class on time with minimum inconvenience.
Parking Lot Closure, May 2
Due to construction parking lot #3 will be closed beginning May 2, 2008. Campus map
Temporary Parking Solutions (Spring, 2008)
In December, 2007, the football field was converted to temporary parking, which will alleviate the problem for spring semester (Jan. 2008), with parking for 525 autos.
Parking Permits
Parking permits are required to park in the Mesa lots. Parking Permits are available for purchase during registration on Reg-e, or at the Mesa Accounting Office. Permits are only valid for the current semester. Permits purchased after the semester begins must be picked up at the College Police Office.

- Misc Campus Areas
- L-500 and Co-Gen Plant – creation of additional estimated 40 parking spaces for Athletics staff/faculty. Faculty/staff parking along Mesa College Circle converted to student parking. (No impact on total number of spaces available due to loss of spaces at the entrance to Mesa College Circle.)
Traffic Alleviation Incentives:
Mesa College and District Facilities have taken measures to reduce traffic congestion on campus, alleviate inconvenience to students and to encourage use of the shuttle and public transportation.
- Free shuttle and parking from Kearny HS to the campus. Shuttles to run every 15 minutes between 7:30 am to 4:20 pm Monday through Thursday. One stop at I300/I400.
- Increased campus security and ACE parking enforcement.
- Alternative routes for construction vehicles.
Fri. Nov. 9, 2007 - Nov. 2008 (estimate)
As part of the Proposition S and N construction process, Mesa College Drive at Armstrong Street will be closed effective November 9th in order to proceed with the construction of our new parking garage/police substation. The closure is estimated to last one year.
All traffic using Mesa College Drive to enter the college will be directed to turn right at Armstrong Street and then turn left onto the new Armstrong Street connector.
A four -way stop sign will be placed at Armstrong Street and the Armstrong Connector. College Police and District Parking Services will be directing traffic during peak traffic periods.
