At the end of last semester, the Olympians brought home numerous awards from the last two tournaments of 2018. Mesa won 3rd Place in Parliamentary Debate and 5th overall at The Griffin Tournament at Grossmont College. Just over a week later, Mesa traveled north to Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut where they won 2nd place in the Novice division at the largest and most competitive event of the year: PSCFA’s Fall Championship tournament (see below for a full list of achievements).

Mesa College offers hundreds of scholarships each year to students, and as of February 1, students can access the online portal to apply. The scholarship program gives students the opportunity to complete their studies through financial support. Numerous individuals, groups and Mesa College partners offer scholarships, with many dedicated to the memory of loved ones affiliated with the college. Scholarships range in value from $250 – $2,500 and are available to all Mesa students.

In celebration of Black History Month, San Diego Mesa College hosted its annual Rosa Parks Birthday Recognition Ceremony on Monday, February 4th. On what would have been her 106th birthday, a group of faculty, staff and students gathered in the Humanities and Cultural Studies Auditorium (G-102) to give respect and gratitude for Mrs. Parks’ courageous act to remain seated in the face of injustice—an act that would spark a bus boycott and a continued pursuit for justice and equality for all.

San Diego Mesa College Art Gallery is beginning the 2019 Spring semester with exciting news. Students, faculty, staff and the San Diego community are all invited to visit the brand new Mesa College Art Gallery located in the newly remodeled Fine Arts Building. The inaugural exhibition Looking Forward, Looking Back, will feature the work of 47 alumni that are presenting current projects. A reception will be held on Thursday, February 7 from 5:00-7:00pm, and the exhibition will run from January 28 – February 13.

San Diego, Calif. —San Diego Mesa College is accepting nominations for the 2019 San Diego Mesa College Distinguished Alumni Award. The Alumni Award program was established in 2011 to recognize former students who have made significant contributions to society, and whose accomplishments, affiliations, and careers have honored the legacy of academic excellence and equity at San Diego Mesa College. The award recipient will be announced in March and invited to be the guest speaker at Mesa College’s 2019 Commencement Ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 18. Nominations are due no later than February 22, 2019. Anyone in the greater community is encouraged to submit a nomination.

In March 2015, the California Community College Board of Governors voted unanimously to approve that San Diego Mesa College offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management (HIM). Mesa College is one of only fifteen community colleges in the state to offer a BA degree, and made history in 2018 with the first graduating class to receive bachelors from the College.

Mesa Fashion students recently visited the Coronado Public Library for an exclusive tour of the Edith Head Exhibition. The exhibit, displayed in conjunction with the Coronado Film Festival’s “Focus on Fashion,” showed design renderings and sketches by Fashion Icon, Edith Head.
