Safety at Mesa
Occupational, environmental health and safety (OEHS) falls under the authority and responsibility of the Office of the Vice President of Administrative Services (VPA). The VPA and the Occupational, Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator are the designated Safety Officers for Mesa College.
The Site Safety Department oversees the College's health and safety programs and policies; compliancy to Federal, State and county rules, regulations and requirements; and provides advice, information, and instruction on all OEHS issues.
Mesa College also has a Site Safety Committee which addresses safety and security issues, provides a conduit for communication, and promotes safety across all areas of the Mesa College campus.

Safety Devices on Campus
Our campus is equipped with critical life-saving tools designed for use by employees or bystanders before professional first responders arrive. Familiarize yourself with their locations in hallways and common areas. Although these devices are provided for all to use, you are not required to use them if you feel uncomfortable doing so. However, we strongly encourage you to learn their locations; being able to quickly retrieve a device for someone else to administer can save a life.
Automated External Defibrillatorchevron_right
An AED is a portable electronic device that, once attached to the patient, automatically diagnoses life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias and delivers an electric shock to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.
How to use
Open the case and turn the device on. It will provide voice prompts to guide you through every step. It will not deliver a shock unless the victim’s heart requires it.
Disclaimer: Campus AED units are configured specifically for adults and older children. They do not include the "pediatric key" required to convert the device for infant or small child use. These units are intended for use only on individuals 8 years of age or older or those weighing more than 55 lbs.
For additional first aid information, refer to our First Aid emergency management page.
Stop the Bleedchevron_right
Bleeding Control Kits are located alongside our campus AEDs in the AED cabinets. These kits contain specialized medical supplies to restrict blood flow and stabilize a victim in the moments before professional medical help can arrive, helping to save a life during a bleeding emergency.
What's Inside
Each kit includes a tourniquet, pressure bandages, shears, pressure strap, trauma pads, emergency blanket, marker, gloves and instructions. They are designed to be used by anyone, even those without medical training, to stabilize an individual until paramedics arrive.
Evactuation Stair Chairschevron_right
These specialized chairs are used to safely transport individuals with mobility impairments or injuries downstairs during an emergency when elevators are unavailable or unsafe to use.
Campus Stair Chairs are in every multiple story building on campus. Instructions on how to use the chairs are attached to each Stair Chair.
For more information about evacuations on campus, refer to our Evacuation emergency management page.
